About Mike Falkow
I thought I’d post a little something about me so anyone who was interested could get an idea of my training and background. I was born and raised in South Africa. After graduating high school with a focus on fine arts as my choice of studies, I enrolled in a newly emerging multimedia program with MediaTek Training Institute. Graphic Design and Desktop Publishing were the major subjects covered and after completing the program I was hired by a major magazine as junior designer. After being there for a year, and climbing the ranks to senior designer of one of their publications, I left the company and travelled Europe, Asia and the United States for a couple years. In 1999 I ended up in Los Angeles and decided to stay. My design career was mostly freelance at that point, and I worked for a sports company, a publishing company, and some major and not-so-major agencies around LA. In about 2004 I was approached to design a friend’s website. At that time, I knew nothing about building websites, but I knew a fair amount about design. So I accepted the gig, and learned on the job. In the past eight years I have designed and developed almost 100 web projects and over 100 print and branding projects. What you see in the portfolio sections of this website (PRINT WORK and WEB WORK) are a select few samples.
